PFU Launches New RICOH fi-8700 Series A3 Scanners for High-Volume Document Digitization
Flexible intelligent document processing at scale
PFU Limited (President and CEO: Eiji Hirahara, hereinafter PFU) today announced the RICOH fi-8700, fi-8700S, and fi-8600 as the latest additions to its fi Series of professional document scanners, the world’s No. 1 scanner brand by market share*. Designed for healthcare providers, government agencies, financial institutions, and BPO organizations, the new lineup helps digitize large volumes of diverse paper documents more efficiently and accurately. The lineup includes three A3-capable models: the RICOH fi-8700 and fi-8700S ADF flatbed scanners and the RICOH fi-8600 ADF scanner. These new models build on the success of the long-selling fi-7700 Series while delivering enhanced usability, flexibility, and productivity.
The RICOH fi-8700, fi-8700S, and fi-8600 now support wired LAN connections, allowing for deployment in a variety of customer infrastructure environments. In addition to the existing universal design, these models feature a high-visibility color LCD panel, achieving an intuitive and user-friendly design. Furthermore, the A3-compatible flatbed scanner now supports the Multi-Crop function, which allows users to scan multiple documents at once and crop each one individually. It also features a Timer Scan function that enables continuous scanning at set intervals. These enhancements provide greater flexibility in deployment and operation, helping organizations maintain and upgrade their scanning environments with ease.
PFU helps organizations reduce the burden of document digitization and improve operational efficiency in document-intensive environments.

Background
Across healthcare organizations, government agencies, financial institutions, and BPO operations, demand for document digitization continues to grow as digital transformation initiatives accelerate. In environments that handle large volumes of diverse paper documents, organizations require scanners that deliver both reliable operation and high-quality image capture.
In healthcare and BPO settings in particular, there is a growing need to efficiently process a wide variety of document types, including thin paper, booklet-style documents, and forms with attached materials. As a result, the importance of scanner solutions that combine high productivity with the flexibility to handle diverse scanning requirements continues to increase.
To address these needs, PFU has expanded the capabilities of its trusted fi Series platform with new features designed to improve efficiency, usability, and deployment flexibility in document-intensive environments.
Key Features
1. Enhanced Connectivity and Usability
Greater Deployment Flexibility with Wired LAN Connectivity
In addition to USB connectivity, the fi-8700, fi-8700S, and fi-8600 support wired LAN connections, enabling more flexible deployment and operation. Users can operate the scanner without being constrained by the location of the connected PC, making it easier to adapt to a variety of workplace environments.
Universal design focused on ease of use
The fi-8700 and fi-8700S feature a 180-degree rotating ADF, allowing operators to load documents from either side of the scanner. This design improves usability and helps accommodate a variety of installation environments, providing comfortable operation across a wide range of workplaces.
The newly added color LCD panel improves visibility, making scanner status, including error messages, easier to check.
2. Features Designed for High-Volume Productivity
High-Speed Scanning and Large-Capacity Paper Feeding
The fi-8700, fi-8700S, and fi-8600 offer high-speed scanning(1) and support paper feeding of up to 300 sheets. Documents can also be added during scanning, enabling large volumes of documents and forms to be digitized efficiently in a single operation.
Batch Scanning of Thin Paper and Attached Documents Without Presorting
The new Multi-Crop function allows multiple documents to be scanned simultaneously and automatically extracted as separate files. In healthcare and BPO environments, a wide variety of document types, including long, narrow receipts and forms with partially attached materials, are often processed together. This feature reduces the need for manual sorting and preparation before scanning.
3. Continuous Flatbed Scanning for Greater Efficiency
In addition to the well-received Cover-open Cropping function, which allows documents to be scanned with the cover open, the new Timer Scan feature enables continuous scanning at user-defined intervals.
When used together with Cover-open Cropping, Timer Scan is particularly effective for scanning multi-page booklet-style forms commonly found in healthcare and BPO environments. Operators no longer need to repeatedly open and close the cover or press the scan button for each page, helping reduce processing time and operational workload.
4. Software that supports everything from scanning to utilization
Automate data storage and streamline routine scanning tasks
The product includes PaperStream Capture and PaperStream ClickScan as standard components. PaperStream Capture streamlines routine document-processing tasks, including scanning, file sorting, and barcode recognition. Additionally, PaperStream ClickScan allows you to scan while selecting the save location and file name each time with a simple three-step process.
Accurate Data Extraction from Paper Documents to Improve Operational Efficiency
Users can take advantage of the optional AI-OCR-enabled software, PaperStream Capture Pro Premium, which supports the recognition of handwritten as well as printed text. In addition, the cloud-based AI-OCR service PaperStream AI(2) converts information captured from scanned documents into highly accurate digital data without the need for advanced configuration, helping organizations improve operational efficiency and accelerate document-driven workflows.
